Trade licence pathway
Practical plumbing installation and maintenance experience.
Plumbing is one of the most heavily regulated trades in Australia, and most states require a specific plumbing licence in addition to any qualification. RPL assessment for plumbing focuses on installation, maintenance and repair experience across water supply, drainage, gas or roofing systems, depending on your area of practice.
A nationally recognised qualification may support a trade licence application, but your state regulator makes the final decision and sets its own criteria.
A nationally recognised plumbing qualification is generally a prerequisite for licensing, but your state plumbing regulator sets its own rules about supervision, endorsements and the specific licence classes (e.g. water supply, drainage, gas, roofing) you can apply for.
Breadth of experience can support a stronger evidence portfolio, but your assessor will confirm which specific units and licence classes your evidence actually supports.
